A series of trojans are now attacking the UK government and UK companies. The attackers seem to be gathering commercially or economically valuable information by sending trojans either in email attachments or through links to a web site.
The emails employ social engineering techniques, including use of a spoofed sender address and information relevant to the recipient’s job or interests to entice them into opening the attachments. Once installed on a user's machine, trojans may be used to obtain passwords, scan networks, extract information and launch further attacks.
Norman SandBox is able to detect new and unknown Trojans. The SandBox combined with updated signature files will provide protection against Trojans. As always Norman recommends all users that they do not open all sort of emails and avoid opening unknown attachments and links. There is no complete mitigation for computers connected to the Internet.
