Microsoft has entered into a cooperation with the Norwegian company, Norman ASA, to supply virus control software. Norman Virus Control will be offered to all of Microsoft's customers as a trial offer up to the New Year. This agreement was entered into between Norman and Microsoft's security department in the US. Norman is the only Norwegian company taking part in this cooperation.

Microsoft has entered into a cooperation with several virus control vendors, among them Norman ASA. This cooperation means that Microsoft will make a free offer of Norman Virus Control to all of its customers.

- Microsoft prioritises quality and innovation, and always the best products. It is also great for us in Norway that Norman has been selected in this way as it shows that a Norwegian player can also make a name for itself on the international arena, says Ole-Morten Settevik, managing director of Microsoft Norway.

This agreement comes as part of Microsoft's work to limit the damaging effects of virus threats relating to the year 2000. Microsoft expects that a flood of so-called hoax viruses will be triggered on 0/0/00 to trick users into believing that their hardware or software is unable to tackle the year 2000 problem.

- We consider this to be a major stamp of approval for our products that Microsoft has chosen to enter into a cooperation with us. It is very stimulating that we, as a Norwegian company, have the chance to work together with the world's leading IT company, says Bjørn Fosli, managing director of Norman.

The first preliminary discussions between the two parties began in September. The background for this cooperation was the increasing uncertainty relating to what will happen with the development and proliferation of computer viruses and computer crime associated with the approaching millenium.

- Microsoft wants to ensure that our users have the best possible protection to deal with these challenges and therefore made contact with the most competent players within the field of data security, says Ole-Morten Settevik.
