New, improved version ready for testing:
In just under three months Norman ASA will introduce the next generation of virus control for end users. Norman Virus Control 5.0 has extended functionality and user friendliness. Up to its introduction, the new version will be tested among a selection of Norman's customers.
In the last year Norman has focused on further development and optimisation of Norman Virus Control. Our objective has been to achieve increased functionality and also improved administration and user interface. This objective will soon be achieved and extensive testing is currently being carried out on the next generation of virus control; Norman Virus Control 5.0.
Easier network administration
"Despite the fact that almost without exception Norman Virus Control rates very highly in various product tests with respect to detecting and cleaning viruses, we have found that there is potential for improvement. During development of Norman Virus Control 5.0 our focus has been therefore on user friendliness and easier administration, especially in networks, " says Steinar Wigtil, who is responsible for development of Norman Virus Control.
Invisibility and automatic updating via Internet
Norman Virus Control 5.0 will be introduced at the beginning of Q4 2000 and will contain many product improvements that will reduce installation time and owner costs, improve efficiency and functionality and simplify administration.
"The two most important new features are firstly that the network administrator can choose to what extent Norman Virus Control 5.0 shall be visible and available for settings by the user and secondly it gives the possibility for automatic online updating of the entire application. Norman Virus Control 5.0 will "know" where to find the updates and will make regular checks to see whether there are new versions. Norman is among the first to use such "pull" technology to give secure updating of the entire network from Norman's main server machines and all the way out to each workstation," Wigtil says.
Want to increase market share in virus control
"Norman Virus Control has long been one of the leading products in detecting and cleaning data viruses and introduction of the new version of Norman Virus Control consolidates this position. We will now also have one of the leading products in administration of virus control in large networks. Our objective is still to acquire market shares in the virus control market, both in Norway and abroad," Managing Director Bjørn Fosli says.
