Norman Data Defense Systems announced today that it is a member of an industry team led by EDS which has been selected to service a U.S. government-wide contract to provide smart access identification cards to federal agencies. EDS was one of five companies chosen to compete under the 10-year, $1.5 billion contract.
Norman will offer its strong performing and versatile access control and network security solutions. Norman Access Control is a data security management product that protects computers against unauthorized access to data. The product has been rated by SC Magazine as "Best Buy" in its category because it is "easy to use and offers excellent boot protection…with a host of security features."
"Norman Access Control is the most comprehensive data protection product on the market today," said Bjørn Fosli, president and chief executive officer of Norman ASA. "We are pleased to be a member of this prestigious industry team on such an important government contract. Our access control product will be a critical tool in helping federal agencies protect their intellectual property and guard against security breaches".
The contract is designed to provide federal agencies with interoperable, multi-application smart cards that will enable agencies to grow with electronic commerce. The cards may be used to provide basic visual identification and authentication as well as physical and logical access control.
"This contract is a major step in transforming the government into E-government," said Al Edmonds, vice president of EDS's Government Global Industry Group.
"The contract," said Sandra N. Bates, commissioner of GSA's Federal Technology Services, "will provide our government partners with a wide range of smart card applications and functionality."
"They will greatly enhance the security of government facilities and systems on a worldwide basis," she said, and "support many important applications, such as electronic signature, training certification and e-commerce."
