Norman and LibertySurf sign agreement:
As the first player in the Nordic countries to do so, Internet service provider LibertySurf Norway will offer its users three data security products from Norman free of charge. This gift package has a market value of approx. NOK 2,000. And Norman sees this as an important agreement in the ISP market.
LibertySurf is one of Europe's largest Internet service providers, but for the time being the agreement with Norman will only apply to Norwegian users. Internet users can download the applications free of charge from October 1 and LibertySurf will pay Norman for the number of users that make use of the offer.
"This agreement is worth NOK 1 million up to the end of the year. Depending on the growth in the number of users up to December 31, 2001, this amount could be even higher," says Jan Kristensen deputy managing director in Norman ASA.
Protection for the customers
"This represents a significant, but correct investment for LibertySurf. We want to give our customers a useful, important and absolutely necessary added value in the form of secure Internet use. We believe that many Internet users are tired of various offers, which have hidden limitations. People are quality conscious. I hope therefore that they will appreciate that they are getting recognised software with a market value of more than NOK 2,000 free of charge," says Christian Wilse managing director of LibertySurf Norge.
Extensive gift package
In practice, this agreement means that LibertySurf users can install three security products from Norman. The first of these is the well-known Norman Virus Control application. The package also includes Norman Privacy, an application that provides secure e-mail encryption, among other things. In a short time, users will also be able to install Norman Personal Firewall, an application that gives private users a secure firewall around their PC. If users need support, they can obtain this either by getting in touch with LibertySurf or Norman's own support service. LibertySurf will also ensure that the customers have access to updated versions of the applications and also to current information about various security threats.
Responsible investment
"It is very impressive that such an important Internet player undertakes a responsible investment such as this to protect its customers against data crime. Through this simple move, the company has secured itself and its customers against unfavourable episodes caused by outsiders. Norman and LibertySurf will continue their close co-operation through development of a safe and reliable platform for all their users. Liberty Surf's customers will be able to enjoy this customer courtesy for some time ahead. And this will also give LibertySurf an obvious competitive edge," deputy managing director Jan Kristensen says.
The agreement may be extended
This co-operation will start in Norway, but there is the possibility to extend it to include Liberty Surf in the rest of Europe. LibertySurf currently has 1.6 million users on a European basis.
