The Data security company, Norman ASA, has signed an ISP agreement with the Swedish telecom group, Telia. Under this agreement, Telia will launch the Norman Personal Firewall as an additional service to Telia's Internet and broadband subscribers. The product has parental control functions for regulating access times and for restricting access to inappropriate web pages or web pages that children should not access.
- At this level, a personal firewall and an anti-virus program are basic needs for the usual Internet surfer. In case this isn't common knowledge, then it becomes clear once you have installed a personal firewall and seen just how many unauthorised access attempts take place each day, says Karin Johansson, manager for Telia's security services.
The personal firewall is an additional service to Telia's Internet and broadband subscribers. The service will cost 30 kroner per month and will be added to the monthly invoice. The product can be downloaded directly from the web or if the subscriber has dial up access, the program can also be received on a CD on payment of a one-off fee of 75 kroner.
Broadband customers have access to the Internet for more hours a day than a customer with dial up access. This means that the user is more vulnerable to unauthorised access attempts. But the personal firewall also has advantages for parents with children that regularly surf the internet.
- Regulating access times and providing the possibility of denying access to certain web pages are functions that some parents have been demanding since Telia began to offer Internet services. I believe that this service will be greatly appreciated, adds Karin Johansson.
Norman's personal firewall is part of Telia's increased focus towards security. In addition to the personal firewall, there is also an automatically updating anti-virus program. A separate support service has also been set up for customers of Telia's security services.
- It is of strategic importance for Norman in Sweden that Telia has chosen our software as part of the service to its Internet and broadband customers. This is the first step in our partnership in providing data security solutions, says Dick Andersson, managing director of Norman in Sweden.
