Norman Ibas Oy and ICL International Computers Limited Oy have signed a cooperation agreement according to which the basic data security and full data security solutions in ICL notebooks and ICL's hard disk data erasure service are based on Norman Ibas's software. The agreement covers the processing and software installation for 5 000-10 000 computers during this year.
The Norman Ibas software serves as a platform for the ICL notebook data security solutions. The basic data security solution is based on Norman Privacy software. With the Norman Privacy software, files and file directories can be encrypted according to customer's wishes.
The Norman Access Control product series is a platform for a full data security solution. The solution protects the entire hard disk of a notebook. The hard disk can be encrypted so that the address information will not be displayed when the disk is booted. The data is not accessible without a password or a smart card.
Hard Disk Data Erasure Service to Network Environment
Norman Ibas and ICL together have also constructed a hard disk data erasure service which operates in network environment. The service is unique in Finland. ICL has chosen Norman Ibas's ExpertEraser software as the basis of this service. The software version that operates in network environment is constructed for ICL's Configuration Centre. The production line of the Configuration Centre now also uses Norman Virus Control 5 for virus detection.
ExpertEraser processes the hard disks on a direct basis. The software passes BIOS and the operating system, so it can overwrite also the hard disk areas occupied by BIOS, the orphan sectors and the last cylinders that other software tools normally cannot process. Safety is guaranteed by functioning quality control and the fact that the software is constructed in network environment.
The hard disk is fully operational after the data erasure, and it can be reactivated in another place or environment. Thus, the operating life of the product can be extended and the environmental effects are reduced.
