The Data security Company Norman ASA announced today that its new version of Virus Control for Small Business (NVC 5) has been selected as 'Editors Choice' for small business by Personal Computer World (June 2001), a publication based in the U.K.

"We're pleased that our most recent generation of virus control, designed to meet the special needs of small businesses, has been awarded 'Editors Choice For Small Business Package' by Personal Computer World," stated Bjørn A Windfeldt, Vice President Marketing of Norman ASA. "NVC 5 helps small business network administrators and employees by being easy to install and virtually invisible to the user, and also by providing automatic updates and continual distribution of signatures files to workstations."

Personal Computer World praises the product's ease of use for the network administrator. The publication states, "It can be installed and virtually forgotten, appearing only when needed." NVC 5's invisibility on workstations provides a high level of protection while minimizing user errors and questions. Personal Computer World also points out another feature that makes life easy for network administrators: "NVC's scanning options are very flexible. The package can be configured to scan any selection of files, clean them if possible, move them to quarantine, or simply prompt for user action if a virus is detected."

ZANDA, Zero Administration Network Distribution Agent, is a ground-breaking network administration technology which makes NVC 5 among the easiest and fastest to roll out, administer, and update - helping small businesses conserve limited time and resources. Together with the Norman Internet Update feature, ZANDA can assure that a company's workstations automatically and continually receive software updates and signature files. Personal Computer World notes that NVC 5 "can be configured to connect automatically on a regular basis to stay up to date with software upgrades and virus signatures, which are continually updated rather than released on a time schedule."

Another significant benefit of NVC 5 is its central event log, which collects information about the status of each workstation and sends messages to the network administrator on occurrences, including virus detections and warnings and installation and program errors. This function helps busy administrators manage entire systems with little effort.

Norman also provides among the most responsive and personalized customer care in the marketplace. As Personal Computer World notes, "An out-of-hours, emailed support request was answered within a couple of hours."

Norman Virus Control has a consistent record of rating highly in product tests. NVC 5 has received two Virus Bulletin 100% Awards this year, and NVC has received thirteen since 1998. In March 2001, NVC 5 received Checkmark Certification from West Coast Labs on detecting and cleaning viruses. Norman's virus search engine has been licensed to a host of companies and institutions, including Sybari Software, and protects millions of workstations.
