16-Time Virus Bulletin 100% Winner Plays Key Role in New Email Security Solution Permitting Multiple Virus Engines to Run Simultaneously for Maximum Protection
Norman ASA, a leading provider of data security solutions, announced that its award-winning virus scanning engine has been selected as one of two virus scanners that ship with MailSecurity, a comprehensive new email security package introduced this week by GFI. Both Norman Virus Control 5 and SOFTWIN's BitDefender are bundled with GFI MailSecurity to give administrators the unusual ability to run multiple best-of-breed virus engines simultaneously, ensuring maximum protection against new virus assaults. Other virus scanners can be added for an additional charge.
In addition to virus scanning, MailSecurity provides exploit detection, an email threats engine, and email content and attachment checking to screen incoming and outgoing email for dangerous payloads. This industry-exclusive combination of capabilities equips organizations with a robust, multi-layered defense against both known and unknown email-based threats to their networks.
GFI selected Norman Virus Control as part of MailSecurity's two-scan system because of the Norman engine's record of strong performance. Norman Virus Control is a 16-time winner of the Virus Bulletin 100% award, indicating its ability to detect 100% of "in the wild" viruses. Norman's virus scan engine also has ICSA Labs Anti-Virus Certification and Anti-Virus Checkmark certification from West Coast Labs. The product protects millions of workstations at companies and institutions around the world.
"We designed MailSecurity to provide the most comprehensive email protection on the market, and it was essential to select two of the most robust and reliable virus scanning engines available to supply the anti-virus portion of the package," said Nick Galea, CEO of GFI. "We have used Norman Virus Control for two years in our Mail essentials product, and the combination of that experience with the industry accolades that have been heaped on Norman's technology made Norman Virus Control a clear choice."
"GFI has proven to be a visionary developer of enhanced email security systems, and the company's new MailSecurity product promises to bring new levels of protection to business networks," said Bjørn A. Windfeldt, Vice President - Marketing at Norman ASA. "The inclusion of our virus scanner will help guard MailSecurity users against new virus outbreaks and thereby shield enterprises against related problems that can range from significant economic losses to a negative effect on the reputation and credibility of their organizations."
