Partnership to develop intelligent secure messaging solutions targeted at SMB and service provider markets

Vircom Inc., a leading developer of Internet infrastructure server solutions, and Norman Data Defense Systems, a world-class data security specialist, today announced a technical OEM agreement that will enable Vircom to market an entirely new genre of intelligent secure messaging solutions to both small and medium businesses and service providers alike. The decision to move forward with Norman's award-winning anti-virus scan engine provides Vircom considerable leverage to further penetrate the small- to medium-sized corporate market and solidify its presence with current service provider clients.

"We are enthusiastic to be working with Norman," said Bertrand Houle, vice president of sales and marketing at Vircom. "Norman's visionary position and extreme technical expertise within the data security field will dramatically propel Vircom far ahead of the competition in the delivery of fully integrated, intelligent secure messaging solutions. This partnership serves as a strategic foundation to transform the basic commodity of email into a full-fledged value-added service required by today's corporations."

"Vircom possesses an exceptional reputation for developing cutting-edge mail server solutions," said Hank Dugan, president and CEO of Norman Data Defense Systems, the North American subsidiary of Norman ASA. "This makes Vircom the most logical partner for Norman to achieve its strategic business development goal of becoming the leading security solutions provider for under-served small- and medium-sized enterprises."

Vircom soon plans to launch a new family of intelligent secure mail server solutions under the banner name of VOP modusMail. With mail traffic set to continue monumental growth during the next four years, the threat of viruses and unsolicited email will remain ever prevalent. VOP modusMail solutions will combine a full range of enterprise-oriented features plus sophisticated anti-virus/anti-spam scanning engines that are supported by 24/7 auto-updates. This will represent a strong product and service offering that has long been demanded by a growing population of smaller enterprises that clearly need more cost-effective products, seamless integration and maximum return on investment.

"This collaboration of technologies will prove a winning combination in the mail and security marketplace," said Henning Hansen, president and CEO of Norman ASA. "Norman's superior scan engine - which is consistently rated one of the top in detection and removal of viruses - will enhance the value of this new state-of-the-art mail server technology allowing providers to offer their customers the best mail defense system on the market today."
