The data security company Norman, announced today that it has developed Norman Virus Control (NVC) for Microsoft's Internet Information Server in order to protect against worms and viruses that have targeted IIS-based Web sites and servers.

"IIS-based Web sites and servers have been particularly vulnerable to aggressive malware, and even though Microsoft provides patches to mend security breaches, there is an obvious need for anti-virus software that is effective against such threats and is easy to update. Norman has developed a product that fills that need," stated Bjørn A. Windfeldt, VP Marketing in Norman ASA.

NVC for IIS sits between the Internet and the IIS server and monitors incoming HTTP requests. It employs the NVC scanning engine and virus definition files in checking these data streams and includes an easy-to-use updating mechanism. All malware attacks are logged and this data is accessible via the Web with a user-defined trigger word. Attacks are also registered on the NVC Messaging System. Further, NVC for IIS will block all traffic from offending IP addresses for a specified period of time.

In addition, all options can be configured using NVC's Configuration Editor. Changes are updated in real time and do not require reboot or restart of the IIS Server. Signatures are updated as usual with Norman Internet Update (NIU).

NVC for IIS is implemented as an ISAPI filter for Microsoft's IIS Server. NVC for IIS works under Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000.
