Oslo, 22 November 2002

The Norman subsidiary Ibas has entered into a global agreement with a major Swedish company for the secure data erasure on all PCs being phased out during the period to October 2005. This is the largest agreement ever involving Ibas’ Expert Erasure division, with a value of at least NOK 2 million.

Secure erasure is the only way out

Modern operating systems make it very complicated to erase all information stored on hard disks. Standard deletion tools will not securely remove information stored on computers. These tools only change the structure on the hard disk and leave the data intact, making it possible to recover the data with easily obtainable tools.

The agreement ensures that it’s impossible to reconstruct sensitive information on discarded PCs and hence do not represent any security threat against the company.

Breakthrough in Swedish market

- This agreement is a breakthrough for our secure erasure concept in Sweden, and we believe the agreement will be a good reference for us and hopefully stimulate our presence among other companies in Sweden. Ibas was chosen as a result of a thorough evaluation from the customer, and we are looking forward to a good partnership. In Norway the public sector and industry have been conscious about the need to use secure erasing methods. Security threats in both countries are identical, but the privacy laws on data erasure in Sweden are more liberal than those in Norway, says Arve Saghaug, CEO in Ibas AS.
