Press Release
Oslo, 6 June 2006
The latest version of Normans Email Protection - version 4.35 - is able to catch 98% of all image spam before it reaches the users’ inboxes. Image spam has for a long time been the most troublesome spam to stop and Norman is among the first to offer this form of protection.
Image spam is an increasingly common and sophisticated form of spamming that is very hard to catch because normal email filters do not “read" messages embedded in an image. Spammers therefore easily bypass filters by sending a unique, slightly different image each time. The latest trend is that spammers combine this technique with the use of millions of spam zombies or “bots" (infected desktop PCs located all over the world that spammers secretly commandeer to relay their emails). By combining these techniques, image spammers confound most antispam technologies on the marked today.
Norman Email Protection version 4.35 provides new filtering capabilities that capture 98 % of all image spam. This new technology will allow all users to block most image spam immediately
- This is an effective tool in the battle against spam and malware. Customers will have great benefit in using this new version of Norman Email Protection, says VP marketing and business development Audun Lødemel at Norman ASA.
