VB 100 June 2007

Norman Virus Control has achieved a Virus Bulletin 100% award for Windows XP.

The renowned security magazine Virus Bulletin has in the June edition tested the security software Norman Virus Control v. 5.90 and awarded the product with VB100% award.

This comparative review was performed on the Windows XP SP2 platform where malware from the WildList was used. The WildList is a collection of malware which is spreading in the wild. The list is maintained by the WildList Organization International and is created each month by a team of volunteers, using reports from over 70 antivirus researchers and corporations world-wide including Norman.

In the last months the majority of new malware added to this list are trojans making botnets and viruses like file infectors.

The activity in the area of established and running botnets is still high. One out of two emails in Norman’s email cleaning house Norman Online Protection is spam and Norman believes that the majority comes from botnets. File infectors belong to a group of viruses in which there also seems to be growth. They attach themselves to program files. When the program is loaded, the virus is loaded as well and the damage is done, says Audun Lødemel Marketing Director in Norman ASA.

Norman Virus Control manages to detect all elements in the WildList and was awarded with VB100% on Windows XP SP2.
