Norman ASA, the Norwegian data security company, today announced an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) agreement with US data security vendor eEye Digital Security. eEye will incorporate Norman’s antivirus engine with the unique SandBox technology as part of its security offering.

eEye Digital Security is a leading developer of system security software, and the foremost contributor to security research and innovation in the United States. eEye provides a complete platform that anticipates where systems are vulnerable and prevents attacks on these systems well in advance of actual threats appearing. eEye's customers, Citigroup and the U.S. Department of Defense, represent the largest deployments of vulnerability assessment and prevention technology in the private and public sectors in the United States.

“What will distinguish the new Blink Professional 3.0 (endpoint security suite) from its competition is Norman's approach to evaluating executable program behavior before it runs.When eEye began scouting potential antivirus vendors for inclusion in the new Blink , we had a large kind of honey pot that we had set up with about 20 or so antivirus vendors, and consistently the one company that kept detecting viruses ahead of time, before everybody else, was Norman," said Marc Maiffret, Founder/CTO. “The reason we liked it is because they have real great generic technology to be able to generically identify viruses based on their characteristics, rather than using constantly updating a known signature database".

eEye is using its own technology to detect virus-like behavior, as well as now incorporating Norman’s anti-malware engine and SandBox technology, to provide a completely segregated, virtual environment for executables to run prior to being introduced to the client system. This provides the opportunity to detect new, unknown viruses and malware without the need for a signature, allowing time to analyze file behavior and look for suspicious actions.
