Important!
If previously installed antivirus software or remnants of this still resides on your computer, make sure these are removed completely before installing Norman Virus Control (NVC). Two different antivirus products installed on the same computer will entail varying degrees of instability on your system.
1. To launch InstallShield Wizard and start installing NVC
1.1 Install from CD
a) Choose country (map)
b) Click Install
c) Choose Norman Virus Control 5.80
d) Click Install Norman Virus Control
1.2 Installing with install package downloaded off the Internet
Double click the downloaded installation package NVC58Rz_xxx.EXE to launch InstallShieldWizard.
- z denotes releasenumber and is a digit
- xxx denotes language version and is a three letter abbreviation
2. InstallShield Wizard informs you it is extracting the contents of the installation package

3. InstallShield Wizard is preparing to guide you through the installation

4. InstallShield Wizard welcomes you to the NVC installation program
Click Next to start installing NVC.

5. Read through the NVC information
Click Next

6. Read the license agreement
Click Yes

7. Enter your 25 character authenticaton key
Make sure you include the hyphens. There should now be 5 characters in each sequence between the hyphens. It is imperative you enter the key correctly. If you mistype, the installation will not move forward.

8. InstallShield Wizard is asking where to install NVC
Click Next to accept the standard location C:\Norman (recommended)

9. The InstallShield Wizard now asks if you want the update to the latest program version during installation and/or to check automatically at regular intervals for new updates
We recommend that the program is updated during installation, and that it is also updated regularly. If you select one or both alternatives in this dialog box, you will then be asked about your type of Internet connection.

Newer broadband/xDSL connection are usually categorized as Direct connection. Analog modem connection, ISDN and broadband connection using PPPoE are usually Dial-up connection.

10. The wizard lets you know it is ready for copying the files needed to perform the NVC installation on you computer
Make sure all settings are correct, click Next

11. Some short messages appear on your screen telling you NVC is installing, until finally telling you the installation is complete
Click Finish

12. A few seconds after clicking Finish, NVC may ask for a restart to complete the installation
If you get this question click Restart Now
Important!
It is crucial that you update your installation of NVC continously, in order to be sufficiently protected against viruses/worms/trojans. We therefore recommend you to configure your NVC to check for updates each day. Follow the procedure below if you did not configure this as described in item 9 in the first part of this installation description.
- Click the N icon in the lower right corner of your display (by the clock), and select Configuration Editor
- Select the tab Internet
- If you are using ISDN or analog modem select Daily on dial-up.
- If you are using ADSL or other types of broadband connection select On direct connection at specified times.
- Save and Exit.
