NPF import previous rules

You will meet this dialogue when reinstalling or upgrading Norman Internet Control or Norman Personal Firewall. By selecting ’Yes’, the installation will use all previously created rules. If you have built up a set of rules and feel that your installation is well protected by these rules, you should select ’Yes’.

If you have unintentionally defined rules that lock you out from sites that you want to access, you may give the firewall a new start by selecting ’No’. This will launch Freshie’s Assistant, which is the wizard that takes you through the basic setup of Norman Personal Firewall. All previously defined rules will be deleted when you select ’No’, and the first period after completing the wizard will be a time of education. This means that the firewall assistant will pop up quite frequently and help you create rules for safe computing.

The assistant pop-ups are not necessarily warnings. They are only telling you that some kind of connection or active content is asking for access. It may be difficult to decide whether a connection should be allowed or not. Hopefully the User’s guide may help you with these decisions.
