Problem
When I run Internet Update I get the error message:

The error message also refers to an error in files1.txt
'x' above will be a letter or a number

In addition to the Internet Update error message, the tray icon may display a cog that never disappers.
Details
This problem may occur on installations where all the following three conditions must be present:
- The authentication key is used with another Norman product than the key was originally issued for, e.g. when updating Norman Virus Control using a key for Norman Internet Control.
- The program has not been updated after 20 September 2007 at 1320 UTC.
- The authentication key in use is converted to the new license key system. You can check this by clicking the N icon in the system tray and select Configuration editor -> Enter authentication key. If the key shown consists of three groups with five characters each, your key is converted to the new license key system. If your key has five groups with five characters each, you are still using the old license key system.
Solution
- Start the Configuration Editor by selecting it from the tray icon menu or the Windows Start menu
- In the section for Install and update products unselect Norman Personal Firewall from the tabbed dialog Install

- Save the configuration
- Run Internet Update
The error message should now be gone and the installation will again update normally. The tray icon cog should disappear within a couple of minutes.
