After installing Windows XP service pack 2 in the network, you will not be able install NVC on new computers in the network, view details for current installations or issue scans and updates from NDesk without first doing some changes in the Windows Firewall configuration.

Solution

To successfully run NDesk with Windows XP service pack 2, you have to do the following changes in the Windows Firewall configuration: 

  1. To be able to install NVC on new computers, you must set up and exception for File and Printer Sharing in the Windows Firewall configuration.

  2. To be able to view detailed information about NVC installations, start manual scans and issue updates from NDesk, you must open port 2868 for TCP.
