NVC and NEP may run on the same server. However, you should consider the following topics before you decide if and how they can run together:
- Which are the server’s primary tasks?
If the server is a pure email gateway/server and not a file server (sharing) accessible from the Internet/network, NVC will probably not have any mission. In this situation you should install NEP only from performance considerations. - What if the server has multiple tasks?
If the server is an email gateway/server in addition to a file server accessible from the Internet/network, we recommend that you install both NVC and NEP. In such installations, the two products use the same scanner engine and virus definition files. Thus, the antivirus part of both products should be updated through the Internet Update mechanism in NVC. - How do I uninstall NVC or NEP from an installation that is running both products?
Before uninstalling NVC from an installation running both NEP and NVC, note that NEP will no longer have any virus scanning or virus scanner update capabilities. NEP does not warn you about this, so if you want to keep the virus scanning part of NEP intact, you should either not uninstall NVC, or you must uninstall NEP, restart the server and reinstall NEP after uninstalling NVC.
