Date updated: 22 May 2008
Problem description
To reduce the memory footprint of Norman Virus Control, the virus definition files are written temporary to disk. When a new definition file is downloaded and installed, the Norman Scanner Engine is responsible for deleting the old temporary file. However, due to a bug in Norman Scanner Engine, the old definition file is not deleted.
This leads to accumulation of numerous temporary definition files over time. Each temporary definition file has the size of around 70 MB, so this issue will lead to excessive use of disk space.
Problem Solution
This problem is solved in a new version of the Scanner Engine (version number 5.92.08) published on Norman Internet Update servers 2008.05.21.
