Problem

In earlier NVC versions Norman Program Manager (Zanda) impersonated the logged on user when updating client installations from the distribution server. When no user was logged on, the client installations relied on the “NVCuser" defined in the LAN/WAN tab of the Default.ndf network configuration to fetch updates from the distribution server.

We have received reports from some of our customers that the impersonation mechanism doesn’t work properly in NVC v5.80. This may cause that installations are not updated if the “NVCuser" does not have sufficient rights to log on to the distribution server. It may also cause log on problems in networks where the maximum number of concurrent connections is reached.

Solution:

  1. Download and install Fix010405_all_lang.exe on the NVC distribution server
  2. Make sure that the “NVCuser" in the Default.ndf configuration file (...\Distrib\Nvc\Config) has read access to the ...\Distrib\Download directory on the distribution server Log on a client computer as “NVCuser" and check that you can access the NVC distribution directory on the server to verify this.
  3. The problem should now gradually be solved when the machines are restarted and successfully updated from the distribution server again. If you still have logon and/or update problems, you can use NDesk to install the update to clients by selecting Install Zanda and "Overwrite existing NVC5 installations".
  4. As an alternative to using NDesk (ref 3. above), you can download and run ZimpFix.exe on the computers with logon/update problems and restart these computers.

ZimpFix for silent distribution in network environments

ZimpFixSilent.exe can be used in environment where you want to install the patch from step 3 without screen output and user intervention. Note that you must restart the computers after installation for ZimpFix to be effective

Installing the patch in environments with Novell Netware distribution servers

If you have followed the recommended procedure from our Administrator’s guide for distribution of NVC from Novell Netware servers, Fix010405_all_lang.exe may be installed on the server from the client computer that is used to administer the installation.

OR

If you update the whole network through Firebreak for Novell and don’t administer the NVC distribution from a client computer, you can install Fix010405_all_lang.exe by following the procedure below:

  1. Right-click Fix010405_all_lang.exe and unzip the content to a temporary folder
  2. Compare the names of zip files in your ...\Distrib\Download folder and replace files where names are identical with zip files from your temporary folder.

NOTE: This problem is solved and is not present in NVC v5.81.
