  • When buying a computer make sure the operative system and all the software programs are updated. You can ask the computer store to do this for you. 

  • Make sure that there is an antivirus program installed on the computer. This has to be updated to the latest version and with an automatic updating system. 

  • If you are using email, make sure to use an email client that has filter for junkmail (unwanted emails), i.e junkmail filter in Outlook, Opera with spamfilter, Thunderbyte with intelligent spam filters, etc. 

  • Use antispyware. Make sure it has realtime protection 

  • Set up a router with integrated firewall between your computer(s) and your Internet connection 

  • If you are going to install a wireless network make sure this is proprely protected and secured. Use encryption and hidden IDs
