For over 30 years, ADG, a subsidiary of PHOENIX Pharmahandel, has stood for innovation, success, and creativity, and is a market leader in Windows systems for pharmacies in Germany. Nationwide more than 4,500 pharmacies confide in ADG’s inventory control system. The Mannheim-based company has branch offices in 20 locations and over 250 employees. As one of the largest providers to the pharmacy market, ADG and its subsidiary io-Computersysteme GmbH set new standards in the development of inventory management and cash register systems for pharmacies. It goes without saying that security plays a major role here as well. In spring 2005, ADG decided to cooperate with anti-virus specialist Norman Data Defense and is now using its Norman Virus Control solution successfully.
The company’s IT security philosophy has changed over the course of the past few years because virtually every ADG customer now has Internet access - and use it for just about every imaginable application. This access entails serious risks in terms of security for the entire pharmacy environment of course. To protect this environment effectively, ADG chose Norman Virus Control, whose Sandbox technology is truly unique.
ADG heard about Norman through its parent company, PHOENIX Group. PHOENIX has been using the software with great success for the past three years.
“We knew that PHOENIX’s experience with Norman and its products has been excellent," says Dr. Bernhard Schummer, Director of Quality Assurance at ADG. “But in-house testing with Norman and other providers demonstrated that Norman’s anti-virus scanner worked best with our S3000 inventory control system as well. In the end, we chose the Norman Data solution because the complete package was ideal," states Dr. Bernhard Schummer.
The most important criteria were software performance, seamless integration with ADG S3000 inventory control system and, of course, price, which needs to be economically feasible for customers. The Norman anti-virus scanner offers ADG customers maximum security without affecting or interrupting their actual work with S3000.
“For a year now we have been using the Norman anti-virus scanner and our experience with the product as well as the collaboration with the company have been very positive. During this period we have equipped almost 40% of our customers with the software, far more than we had originally planned. Norman supported us very well with every important aspect," reports Dr. Bernhard Schummer. “We really appreciate the outstanding assistance and support that we receive from Norman. We even took up an invitation to Oslo, Norway, to visit Norman’s head office and meet the developers. It was a very interesting and instructional workshop that has helped us greatly in implementing the solution."
