Endpoint Protection for Linux (standalone version)

Norman Endpoint Protection for Linux is an antivirus application for Linux, offering both On-access and On-demand scanning of files residing on the servers or workstations. This new version includes a graphical user interface which makes it easy to use.

The On-demand scanner is used to manually scan selected areas of a machine for viruses, and can also scan remote NFS volumes. This scanner can use Norman’s SandBox technology to further increase protection by detecting new unknown computer virus, worms and trojans before they can cause harm.

• Auto-update of all modules runs silently in the background, as any new security update will automatically be downloaded and installed silently.
• Decompression library
  An advanced decompression module has been developed to scan compressed files. With this module NVC is able to scan more than 30 archive types and variants like ZIP, TAR, RAR, ARJ, UUENCODE, ARC etc. Files containing other files of different archive formats will also be scanned to further increase security. In addition, if malware is found within an archived file, NVC will - if possible - clean the infection and repack the file (only valid for some formats).

Norman Exploit Detection is a technology for detecting malware exploiting vulnerabilities in widely used document types like, OLE2 (Office documents), MDB (Access), WMF (Windows Media File), JPEG (pictures), RIFF (Windows media meta-format) and SWF (Flash). The technology allows for more to be added whenever they are being abused by malware. Norman Exploit Detection does not depend of awareness and analysis of a particular vulnerability.
