About the statistics

The pages in this section show statistics from different periods of time. The statistics are based on files analyzed by Norman SandBox Information Center.

When viewing these statistics it is particularly important to keep in mind that the statistics do not (nor should!) show  the activity of malware around the world.

Statistics of malware activity in general are available for lots of different sources, including statistics from malware detected by Norman Online Protection (the link opens separate browser window on Norman's ordinary web site).

Malware analyzed during the latest 7 days

Presumably the samples sent to Norman SandBox Information Center for analysis are malware that is not detected by current antivirus/-spyware products. New malware is therefore very much overrepresented in the statistics (which is correct and as it should be).

What the statistics can indicate, however, are trends in the techniques used by the writers of malicious software. One can see over a periode of time if e.g. malware using botnets is growing or declining relative to other kinds of techniques.

At the rignt hand side above is the relative distibution of malicous software during the latest 7 days, graphically shown. Directly below you will see a graphical representation of trends in the distribution of different types of malware.

Please click the different links at the end of the page for the available periods with larger graphs displaying different periods of time.

Norman SandBox Information Center (NSIC) enables you to upload potentially malicious files for an automated analysis. NSIC also offers sophistacted statistics that will show the most common techniques used by malware, as well as several other statistics.
