Is it safe to use Norman Online Backup?
Yes. We are continuously working to make Norman Online Backup the safest place to store your digital memories and documents. All traffic between your computer and Norman Online Backup is encrypted with 256 bits AES high grade encryption, which makes it virtually impossible for others to read the information being sent.

Does Norman employees monitor the content of my files?
No.

How long does it take to back up my files?
If your computer is hooked up to the Internet with a typical home broadband connection you will be able to transfer between 3 and 6 GB of data every day. The initial backup might take a long time because there are many files to transfer, but after that only new and changed files are uploaded.

Why am I not getting my activation email?
Some internet providers are using a technique called grey-listing to fight spam. This may add a delay on the activation email reaching your inbox. Remember to check if the email is in your junk email folder.

What credit cards do you accept?
We accept major credit cards from VISA and MasterCard.

Can Norman Online Backup back up external hard drives via USB or Firewire?
Yes, Norman Online Backup supports internal and external hard drives.

Can I back up a NAS drive with Norman Online Backup?
Yes, Norman Online Backup  allows backup of a single NAS drive or network folder.

What platforms is Norman Online Backup available on?
Norman Online Backup is available on Windows, Mac OS X and Android.

Are there any file size limits?
No.

What filetypes does Norman Online Backup back up?
Norman Online Backup will back up all file types, however we don't want to waste your bandwidth or our storage capacity, so we don't back up operating system files, program files or temporary internet files. We exclude files from back up that you can easily recreate or you don't need in the future.

Does Norman Online Backup back up hidden files and folders?
By default, Norman Online Backup excludes hidden files and folders, but you can change this setting in the Online Backup settings window.

How do I delete a computer from my account?
To delete a computer from your account you must sign in to the Online Backup website. Click the "My account" link at the top right. Click the "Computers" tab and then click "Delete" next to the computer you want to delete. Then confirm this action.

Can I register multiple computers on one user account?
Yes. However, the unlimited plan does require purchase for additional computers.

How can I see what files have been backed up by Norman Online Backup?
By logging on to the Norman Online Backup website, http://backup.norman.com,  you can search and browse files backed up by all your computers to Norman Online Backup.

Does Norman Online Backup give me file version history?
Yes, Norman Online Backup keeps a copy of the 5 latest changes of all your files.

How do I restore/download files from Norman Online Backup?
To download or restore files you simply log on to the Norman Online Backup homepage, http://backup.norman.com. There you can browse and search through backed up files from all your computers. To download simply check the files and folders you want to download and click "Download". Your files will be downloaded in a compressed ZIP archive.

Does Norman Online Backup support proxy servers?
Yes.

Can I control the bandwidth used by Norman Online Backup to upload files?
Yes, you can find the bandwidth throttler under the Network tab in the Online Backup client.

Can I pause Norman Online Backup during a backup?
Yes, you can pause Online Backup at any time. It will stay paused until you chose to continue backup.

How do I update Norman Online Backup?
Norman Online Backup will find, download and install software updates on its own.

How do I delete files from Norman Online Backup?
When you delete a file from your computer, it will be moved to the Trash Can on Norman Online Backup. There it will stay for 30 days before it is permanently deleted from our servers. You can empty the Trash Can on Norman Online Backup at any time. Files in the Archive can be deleted directly from the Archive.

Can I bring my hard drive to Norman instead of uploading online?
No, we only support uploads online.

I forgot my password, what do I do?
Go to https://backup.norman.com/forgotit. There you can reset your password.

Can I exclude sub folders from backup?
No

My local backup folder is 4 GB, why does the server tell me I am using 5 GB?
Norman Online Backup saves deleted files for 30 days after you have deleted them from your computer. In addition, we save the 5 latest versions of all your files, so you can easily go back in time to get the version you need. These additional files is only stored on our servers and will consume more space than your local folder.

Can Norman Online Backup synchronize files between my computers?
No

Norman Online Backup says it is experiencing network problems. Why?
Normally this is due to your internet connection is unstable, or down, but we sometimes perform server maintenance and downtime can be expected. Norman Online Backup is designed to cope with this and will automatically connect to the servers as soon as the connection is restored. Backup will then continue where it left off.

Can I run Norman Online Backup on my Windows Home Server?
Windows Home Server is not a supported platform and problems might occur.

How do I remove Norman Online Backup from my computer?
To remove Norman Online Backup from Windows go to the start menu > Programs > Norman Online Backup. Click Uninstall. Accept the choices that the uninstall wizard gives you.
