Problem description

What do I do while running a scan with Norman Ad-Aware my antivirus scanner finds a virus

Problem solution

While running a scan with Norman Ad-Aware my antivirus scanner finds a virus in a location that looks something like this:
C:/DOCUME~1/LOCALS~1/Temp/AAWTMP/<random_number>/NASTYVIRUS.exe
(on one line)

Norman Ad-Aware copies some executable to a temporary location to scan them, whilst the copying process is taking place your antivirus scanner may see the file activity, and detect the virus. Norman Ad-Aware should then delete the files when it has completed the scan, you should exclude the temprary folder Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp\AAWTMP from On-demand scanning by antivirus software.

Excluding Files and Folders from scans when using Norman Virus Control:

  • Select the Norman icon in the system tray > Configuration editor.
  • Select the Common settings icon on the left hand side and choose add.
  • Add the path to the file or folder that you want to exclude, ie C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp\AAWTMP
  • Add a comment if required and select OK
  • Select the On-demand scanner icon.
  • Tick Files on exclude list under the Exclude from scan heading.
  • Select the On-access scanner icon.
  • Tick Files on exclude list under the Exclude from scan heading.
  • Save and close.
