Problem description
Some or all the computers in my network is displayed with a question mark in NDesk.
Problem solution
Possible explanations and solutions
- NDesk requests information, but the information given is not presented within the specified time limit. You can right-click in NDesk and choose Options. Set the timers for Maximum time for remote machine to respond to 400 and Maximum time for Zanda to respond to 4000.
- The IP-range you are trying to scan is too big. For each IP-address that needs to be scanned, a certain amount of time and memory is taken. If the range is too big, it will take too much time for NDesk to gather all information. Make your range smaller.
- The computer on which you run NDesk is not a part of the same distribution-network as the machines you want to administer.
- A firewall is either present on the machine on which you run NDesk, or on the remote machine that you are trying to administer.
Any firewalls in use on clients in the network must be configured to accept ICMP (ping), filesharing (ports 137,138,138 on NT or port 445 on Win2000/XP) and port 2868.
