Problem description

Clients managed by Norman Endpoint Manager should be able to run Internet Update when they are outside the managed network.

To enable this, the Norman Endpoint Manager (NEM) administrator must configure the client policy to allow Internet Update to run manually or automatically at set intervals.

Even if the NEM administrator has configured the policy correctly, the client might experience the following error message when trying to run Internet Update:

At the moment, this computer is not configured for internet updating.

Problem solution

There is currently a hardcoded value preventing Internet Update on clients to run unless 230 minutes have passed without contact with the Endpoint Manager server. The reason for this is to prevent managed clients from generating unnecessary traffic within the network.

We are considering removing or reducing this limit in a future upgrade at least when LAN update frequency is set to Never and  Internet Update is set to Update manually.

Possible workarounds

  • Wait 230 minutes before running Internet Update

    or

  • Set the computer clock at least 230 minutes forward, run Internet Update, set the clock back.
