Problem description

The Norman Endpoint Manager server seems to be "dead". Nothing is working as it should.

When starting the elogger debug utility (\norman\npm\bin\elogger.exe) several of the following lines are shown:

13:37:12 nvoy.exe (0) 0000 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
13:37:12 nvoy.exe (0) 0010 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
13:37:12 nvoy.exe (0) 0020 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
13:37:12 nvoy.exe (0) 0030 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................

I can also see the following reference to a fatal error:

13:37:12 nvoy.exe (0) >>>> F A T A L E R R O R:
13:37:12 nvoy.exe (0) <<<< Resource database (v4) is corrupt.

Problem solution

Your server has probably had an uncontrolled shutdown or restart. This could be an abrupt power loss, a reset switch hit, a blue screen of death (BSOD), or something else killing the operating system in an uncontrolled way. In certain scenarios this can lead to a corrupt store (the database containing all information and settings).

To fix this issue, you have to restore a backup of the store. This can be done in the following way:

  1. Delete the file \norman\resources\store.nts
  2. Rename the file \norman\resources\store.last_load.nts to store.nts
  3. Give the command
       nvoy.exe /load

We are working on making the store more robust to reduce the chance of this type of corruption to happen.
