Sluggish performance and loss of network connection

Problem description

My PC performs very sluggish, and I have lost the network connection.

If you are running Norman Security Suite 7.3, the store (a database containing configuration info) has probably crashed. It's unclear exactly what makes the store crash, but we suspect abrupt power loss to be the main reason.

When the store crashes one or more of the following symptoms may appear:

  • Norman-icon missing
  • No network access (if Norman Personal Firewall was installed)
  • Explorer crashes when right-clicking
  • Computer very sluggish (Zanda or zlh processes using 50-100% CPU)
  • Uninstalling Norman does not work

Problem solution

To solve this issue Norman Security Suite 7.3 needs to be reinstalled using the following method:

  1. Start your computer in Safe Mode (press F8 continuously during startup)
  2. Manually delete the directory c:\program files\norman\resources
  3. Uninstall by running c:\program files\norman\npm\bin\delnvc5.exe
  4. Reboot
  5. Reinstall NSS 7.3.

A patch that should prevent this kind of store corruption to happen in the future was released one week ago
